A notebook, a coop, a greenhouse, and the loop that connects them.
Backyard Food Factory started with a simple observation: the chickens made a lot of manure, the garden needed a lot of fertilizer, and the two were forty feet apart. Connect them, add a compost bay in between, and the yard started running on its own outputs.
That became the flywheel: raising chickens → composting waste → improving soil → greenhouse gardening → protein and vegetables, and back around. Producing protein and vegetables while managing waste and improving the soil.
This site documents the system, stage by stage, with the science behind why each part works and the practical detail of running it in a real backyard. The book puts the whole thing in one place.
Erik keeps a laying flock, composts everything the kitchen and yard produce, and grows food in a backyard greenhouse, with a hydroponic pond in the works. He is not a marketing department; he is the person who scrapes the droppings boards on Saturday morning.
Backyard Food Factory is where he writes down what works, what didn't, and why.
