What we collect
- Email address, when you sign up for the newsletter or planting reminders. That's the only personal information the site asks for.
- Planting Planner settings (zip code, frost dates, and the crops you picked), saved against your email only if you turn on reminders. Otherwise they live in your own browser and never leave it.
- Basic server logs kept by our hosting provider and Google Cloud, such as the pages requested and a hashed form of your IP address used only for rate limiting. We don't run advertising trackers or analytics pixels.
How we use it
- To send the emails you asked for: book news, new guides, and weekly planting reminders. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and reminders can be stopped separately from the newsletter.
- To generate your planting calendar and reminder emails from the frost dates and crops you chose.
- To keep the signup forms from being abused by bots.
Who else sees it
Email is sent through Resend and stored in Google Cloud (Firebase), which we use as service providers under their own privacy terms. Frost dates come from public NOAA data and are looked up in your browser. The live-stream page embeds YouTube, which sets its own cookies under Google's privacy policy. We never sell, rent, or share your address with anyone else.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any email with the link at the bottom of it.
- Ask us to delete everything we hold about you by replying to any email from us, or writing to [email protected]. We'll confirm when it's done.
- Clear your browser's site data for backyardfoodfactory.com to remove any locally saved planner settings.
Cookies
The site itself sets no cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to remember planner settings on that device, and embedded YouTube players use Google's cookies.
Children
The site is for adults running a backyard, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so on this page and, for anything significant, by email to subscribers.
